New Guide to Victorian War Memorials
Remember Them is a new guide to Victoria’s wartime heritage. Covering memorials across the state, this book commemorates the lesser known stories of ordinary Victorians who served their country.
Bringing war history to life
May Donovan spent her war years in Melbourne, training to put out incendiary bombs, sheltering in her family's air raid shelter and making anti-gas capes and bandoliers. She was amongst the throng in the city streets the day war was declared over, linking arms with strangers, rejoicing that loved ones would soon be home again. May's story is one of up to 200 being collected over the next three years as part of the ‘Veterans Digital Story Telling Project’ – an exciting initiative to capture the wartime stories of Victorian veterans and civilians. View May's story or read more about the Veterans' Digital Storytelling Project.
